About the Authors

Jay Williams is a Professor of Exercise Science in the Department of Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise at Virginia Tech. He teaches courses in exercise physiology, kinesiology and muscle biochemistry and has a long history of working with athletes ranging from kindergarten soccer players to Olympic track and field athletes. Dr. Williams also operates website, “” which serves as a bridge between the laboratory research and performance on the pitch.

Robin Russell, educated as a teacher, joined the English FA in 1978 eventually becoming Assistant Director of Coaching in 1989. While at the English FA, Robin created the FA Coaches Association, and the FA Learning Ltd. Robin left the FA in 2005 to start his own e-learning business and to become the UEFA Football Development Consultant. He has also acted as a consultant on e- learning, coach education and football development projects for FIFA, National Associations and clubs.
